Help for self-development in one of the poorest countries in the world - Menschen für Menschen - Karlheinz Böhm's Aid for Ethiopia has been working for the people of Ethiopia based on this simple but effective principle for over 40 years. Much has improved since then, but a large proportion of the population still lives in poverty.
Ethiopia has changed a lot in the last few decades. Against the background of globalization, the country is facing new challenges. This also requires organizations in development cooperation to rethink their approach. Until 2014, Menschen für Menschen Switzerland limited itself to helping the rural population. But due to people fleeing to the cities and the poor settlements that were emerging there, the foundation changed its focus. Menschen für Menschen Switzerland is now implementing new projects in rural and urban areas that influence each other. The goal of all projects is to permanently eliminate the most pressing problems and make people independent of further help. Menschen für Menschen Switzerland sees itself as a partner of the Ethiopian population on an equal footing, encouraging their own initiative.
We plan, control and evaluate our projects ourselves on an ongoing basis. This is the only way we can ensure that we meet our high standards of transparency and efficiency and set off into a new future together with the Ethiopian population.
