Current projects

Initially, the work of Menschen für Menschen was characterized by the concept of integrated rural development. Measures in the areas of water, education, agriculture, health, women's projects, infrastructure and social issues are linked together in a region. Due to rural exodus and impoverishment in metropolises, the foundation has expanded its work to urban slums.

Completed Projects

Until 2014, the work of people for people was characterized by the concept of integrated rural development. Various predetermined measures from the areas of water, education, agriculture, health, women's projects, infrastructure and social affairs were linked together across an entire region. This made sense and was successful for the poor rural population. However, the needs of people in Ethiopia are changing rapidly today and focusing solely on the rural population is no longer appropriate.

Abaya & Gelana – Agriculture & Nutrition

Every year the population grows by three percent. The farms are only 0.25 to a maximum of one hectare in size - that is not enough to feed the growing population. An average family therefore does not have enough food for half the year. The farming families receive help to improve their agriculture and their income.

Fogera – Climate & Agriculture

Deforestation in Fogera leads to soil erosion and small harvests. By the end of 2022, we will have planted around one million trees. In the new three-year project phase, we will plant an additional 1.2 million trees together with small farmers. We provide small farmers with improved seeds and productive livestock, impart new knowledge and provide microcredits.
